The movie was shot on MINI-DV (not dv-cam) for 10 million.

I can't say beyond doubt that the last scenes were shot on dv. I dont know. I can say that I have bothered to look it up, but I have found no referance to 35mm anywhere. But i didnt work on the movie and havent seen the dvd so its possible I guess. Hardly room for a "consensus" I'd say.

Despin, do you know if its shot on 35mm for sure, or are you saying that based on your own opinion? I'd really like to know for sure, because this thread is the first I've heard of it.

    Hey there.

"Again, a good soundtrack goes along way in that regard. Blair Witch anyone?"

Yeah... Because that movie had a great soundtrack didnt it???

Yup. The last few minutes of 28 Days Later were shot on 35mm film. That is a medical FACT.

"Surely it would have been in Kodak's best interest to encourage the mention of their product on a supposedly completely digital production."

Mention it where? If it was kodak, Im sure they're in the credits. What do you want? Them to have acredit on the poster?

    Despin out.

Soundtrack doesn't just refer to the music. Teens really went for the heavy, fearful breathing, the whimpering, etc, without that, Blair Witch doesn't twitch at the box office.

    ---------------------------

Kodak doesn't get that everytime the name HD flashes up on the screen, people assume it was shot on HD, even when it could have been shot on film and transferred to HD.

In this mini-dv instance, it's just another example of Kodak being too proud to realize they need to promote their name when it is being film that is used, such as the ending shot or for the stills, if that's the case.

Although you can shoot DV-CAM on a mini-dv tape, (a wise idea since the tape moves faster and allows for the distribution of the digital "ones and zeros" over more tape area), the actual picture quality is no better (that's what I've heard over and over), and I'm not sure that option is available on the Canon-XL1s)

Following on from Despin's IMDB link...

Here's some other films shot with the Canon XL1

    http://us.imdb.com/SearchTechnical?CAM:Canon%20XL-1

By looking at the dates of the films, they're pretty much doubling each year! DV at the cinema is definately going to be alot more accessible!

As for where they got the money to fund it... Goog olde faithful IMDB!

As far as what the film LOOKED like, it varied. The stuff at the beginning *SPOILERS* was all about the grainy out of focus stuff, so it was either a MiniDV blow up, or lower grade 16mm film stock and some techniques like those used by Antonioni in 'Red Desert', having a really tight depth of field, and having nothing you may want to look at in focus. But I've heard that it was shot on MiniDV from many people, on the radio, in reviews, etc. so I think we can all accept that for the first portion of the film. What I have trouble believing is the last five minutes, and the night stuff. DV is always going to be grainy as **** , but the night stuff in this seemed more similar to unlit film than lit for night DV. Cause any underlit DV blowup will look like **** run-over twice. And the last five minutes looked great, and there wasn't the problems with the depth of field, so there must be some other format at work there, be it 35 or 16. Anyhoo, I guess we'll have to wait for DVD...

According to the American Cinematographer article. The film was shot on Canon XL1's with the 35mm lense attachment, in 25fps pal advanced mode. Except for the ending sequence which was 35mm. The film's budget was around 15 million U.S.

You would ever dream to spend 15 million and shoot Super-8. I kind of wonder how it could compare to a Mini-Dv 15million dollar budget.

Heck, I kind of wonder how a 1 or 2 million dollar Super-8 Movie would compare to a 15 million dollar Mini-DV movie.

Cross your fingers Alex, supposedly the Lords of Dogtown fim is going to have a ton of super 8 shot in it. It might not be 100%, but it could be close .
